Year 6 Information

We believe that by developing strong links with our feeder primary schools,
we can support you and your child in their transition to Harlington School.

Many of our Year 7 students have visited Harlington School on a number of occasions to use our sports, arts and food technology facilities, to participate in workshops and event days.  This really helps students settle in as both the building and some of the teachers are familiar to them.

Year 5 and 6 students from a number of schools work together to take part in annual Enterprise Challenges, Community Cohesion Days and Performance evenings.

We have a dedicated Sports Co-ordinator who works with our student Sports Leaders to organise sporting events at Harlington School and at primary schools. We also offer other programmes which support and encourage Literacy and numeracy development.

In preparation for starting year 7, we offer a ‘New Beginnings’ transition programme for Year 6 parents and their children.  It is a real opportunity to ask questions you may have thought of, gain information about transition and to take part in different activities along with your child. Our transition co-ordinator visits each primary school each September, June and July in order to speak to Year 6 students and also their teachers about any particular needs, interests and achievement levels your child may have.

Transition day in July is a great chance to make new friends, meet their form tutor and some of their teachers and try out new and exciting lessons.  We also offer a Transition Camp during the summer holidays – again, an opportunity to start to make friends and get to know teachers. We hope that you will want to join our Harlington School family and look forward to seeing you.
