Student Leadership
Student Voice is important at Harlington, we want young people to be involved in the decision making of our school.
We operate a 6th Form Leadership and Prefect Team and School Council, who meet regularly. The Head Students meet with the Headteachers to feedback student views. The student body regularly fundraise for the charities of their choice, and support national events such as Children in Need, and Green for Grenfell.
EPQ (Extended Project Qualification)
Our more academically able students have the opportunity to undertake an EPQ. This course offers students an opportunity to work in a way that is very similar to higher level study and is, thus, excellent preparation for applications to selective institutions.
DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD
Students are able to pursue a Duke of Edinburgh Award. Students are able to achieve a Bronze Award in Year 12 and progress to Silver in Year 13.
VOLUNTEERING
Our students collectively give-back to the school and to the local community. Our Sixth Form students provide in-lesson support to students in Years 7, 8 and 9 and always provide assistance at school events such as parents’ evenings and open evenings.
ORGANISING CHARITY EVENTS
Sixth Form students take a lead role organising events such as the annual Fusion song and dance extravaganza, the Summer Fair and fundraising events for Children in Need, Comic Relief and Sports Relief.
SCHOOL PRODUCTION
Sixth Form students have key roles both performing and back-stage.
DEBATING
Sixth Form students will undertake a programme of debating through their PSHE sessions.
SPORT & FITNESS
Sixth Form students have access to a wide range of fitness equipment in the on-site gym. Students can take a membership at a subsidised fee of just £5 for the whole year. Students have use of the on-site sports centre, GOALS.
TRIPS
Students undertake a variety of trips related to their subjects. In recent yeas, A level History students visited Auschwitz and A Level Art students visited Paris. Closer to home students have visited the Design Museum, the Houses of Parliament, the Old Bailey, the Globe Theatre and the IMAX Cinema.
In addition, Year 12 students attend a variety of careers and Higher Education-related events.
SUMMER BALL
Our Year 13 students organise a summer leaver’s ball. This is always a terrific and popular event which is attended by most students and a large number of staff.
