We are pleased that we are approaching full compliance with the Gatsby Standards and are passionately committed to the delivery of Careers and Higher Education Information, Advice and Guidance. As part of this programme, we have a fully qualified independent careers adviser.
Students in all years are taught a ‘Future Pathways’ programme that is delivered through drop-down days, related activities, Careers Advisor access and PSHE lessons and is monitored through evaluations, surveys, destinations data and ‘drop-ins’.
- At key points in their school lives, students in year 9 and 11, 13 are offered individual interviews and/or small group sessions to prepare for their GCSE, Post 16 and Post 18 options.
- Students in years 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 have access to individual appointments if they need any additional support.
- Students with SEND and other additional needs have access to our Careers Advisor as part of their Annual Review or as required.
- All year 12 and 13 have access to additional individual sessions and a drop-in service.
- We have a dedicated Careers room with access to prospectuses, careers information and local employment trends.
- We organise an annual Careers Fair attended by over 30 local employers, apprenticeship providers, further education establishments and universities. This is a hugely successful event that is open to pupils in years 7 to 13.
- As part of our ‘Future Pathways’ provision we host a series of activities, workshops and events to support the development of personal and employability skills in addition to pathway/careers specific activities, workshops, STEM activities, and interactions with employers, education and training establishments.
- Students in Year 12 also have a Work Experience Week.
Students in years 7-13 are entitled:
- To find out about technical education qualifications, work and apprenticeship opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point.
- To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through events such as options evenings, assemblies, group discussions and events.
- To understand how to make applications for the full range of opportunities available.
A number of events, integrated into the school ‘Careers & Future Pathways’ programme, offer further and higher education and training providers and businesses an opportunity to speak directly to students and parents. Students are offered the opportunity to take part in workshops, activities and events in order to develop employability skills and to find out information surrounding a given career or pathway.
